Dataran ILTIZAM KDMS: A Place Where Community Comes Together

Every village has a place where memories are made.

A place where children spend their evenings chasing one another under the fading sunlight. A place where neighbours stop to talk after a long day. A place where a community comes together, not because they must, but because they want to.

For the people of Kampung Dato’ Mufti Shuib (KDMS), that place is now Dataran ILTIZAM KDMS — a space that has become much more than a place for recreation. It is where children play, youths train in silat, neighbours gather and generations come together.

What stands today as a lively community space was once an unrealised aspiration. Parents wanted a safe place for their children to play. Youths needed a space to gather and grow. Community leaders envisioned a venue where programmes, celebrations and activities could bring residents together.

Through the collaboration between ILTIZAM by Ekuinas and the village community under Santuni MADANI, that vision gradually became a reality.

According to the village leadership, the support provided through ILTIZAM Care has gone beyond the provision of facilities. It has strengthened the community’s ability to organise programmes, encourage participation and create activities that benefit residents of all ages.

“The support from ILTIZAM Care has brought tremendous value to our community development efforts. It has enabled us to plan and implement programmes more effectively, while creating opportunities for residents to participate, contribute and grow together as a community.”

The impact can be seen in the everyday moments that statistics often overlook.

Children now have a welcoming space to play, build friendships and create memories close to home. For many parents, the dataran provides peace of mind, knowing their children have a safe environment where they can enjoy their childhood.

For the youths, the space has taken on another role as a training ground for silat, where they develop discipline, confidence and a stronger sense of identity. Community programmes, celebrations and volunteer activities are also regularly held there, bringing together residents from different generations and backgrounds.

Yet, perhaps the most meaningful change is something less visible but far more lasting: a stronger sense of belonging.

Village leaders have observed a clear change in community participation over the years. Where involvement in community activities was once limited, more residents are now stepping forward as volunteers, contributors and advocates for their neighbourhood. Children, youths, parents and senior citizens are engaging with one another more actively, creating a spirit of togetherness that continues to grow.

“What touches us most is seeing how the community has become more united. Residents no longer see these programmes as someone else’s initiative. They see them as something that belongs to all of us. That sense of ownership has transformed the way our community comes together.”

This growing sense of ownership is what gives Dataran ILTIZAM KDMS its meaning. It is no longer simply a physical space. It has become a place shaped by the people who use it — where relationships are strengthened, experiences are shared and memories are created.

For Ekuinas, this reflects the true spirit of ILTIZAM. Community development is not just about building facilities or delivering assistance. It is about creating opportunities for people to connect, support one another and build a better future together.

Today, every burst of laughter from a child, every silat practice session and every community gathering at Dataran ILTIZAM KDMS serves as a reminder that meaningful impact is measured not only by what is built, but by the lives and relationships that flourish because of it.

And in Kampung Dato’ Mufti Shuib, that impact will continue to be felt for generations to come — in the memories made, the relationships strengthened and, most importantly, in a community that has found a place to come together.
