In 2016, an opportunity emerged to directly impact Ekuinas’ oil and gas portfolio companies by increasing the number of Malaysian officers in the maritime industry. This came about when Icon Offshore Berhad and Orkim Sdn Bhd expressed a need for more local senior officers to operate their vessels to meet clients’ requirements.

In support of our companies and the maritime industry, we started the Oil & Gas Marine Training and Development Programme by sponsoring deserving Bumiputera employees to undergo full-time training at Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM).

This initiative has three programmes:

On-Job Training Employment Programme (OJTE)

• Targeting cadets (new joiners) who would like to pursue their career maritime. Selection of candidates for this programme would be of high potentials from Universities, ALAM trainees as well as companies’ new cadets.
• This programme normally takes 5 – 6 years of training including time spent offshore or at sea.

Dynamic Positioning Operator Training Programme (DPO)

• Catered for Senior Ranked Officers to pursue the DPO position. On any fleet, the DPO position is the highest ranked.
• This programme takes between 1- 1 ½ months of training.

Advance Post Sea Training Programme (APS)

• Catered for Senior Ranked Officers who want to pursue their position on fleet decks.
• This programme takes between 1 -1 ½ months of training
